Sekilas -FORUM LINGKAR PENA-

FORUM LINGKAR PENA
It is God’s gift for Indone
 Taufiq Ismail

So it happened

Writers in Indonesia are numerous. In the last decade Indonesia is enlivened by the emerging of writers under 30 years old and the growth of literature pouches in Jakarta and many other cities.

One of those considered as phenomenal was the rise of Forum Lingkar Pena (FLP) in 1997. In a relatively short time, this organization with branches in almost 30 provinces and overseas had about 5000 members which most of them were females.

During six years since it was established, this writer organization had published more than 200 books which mostly were serious literary works, teen fictions, and child stories. Neither persons nor institutions ever supported sponsorship for FLP. This autonomy allowed FLP to write with its consciences. Tempo newspaper, one of commanding Medias in Indonesia, called FLP as a ‘Story Writer Manufacturer’!

Inclusive

FLP is an inclusive organization. Its membership is opened for everybody regardless their ethnicity or religion. A majority members of FLP is actually muslim, however, their Islamic understandings are various. There are some non-muslims joining FLP. Nevertheless, FLP members share the same intentions: to share a light with their readers and consider that writing activities are parts of religious services.

There were young writers and writers’ candidates subsequently to be FLP administrators. While there were no administrators yet in some local regions, there were always FLP correspondents. The FLP administration networks, in forms of branches and correspondences, spread widely in 29 points across Indonesia and 13 points in overseas.

The youngest FLP member currently is 7 years old and the oldest is 65 years old, although majority of them are 15-25 years old.
